Carriage and Wagon

The Rolling Stock group is responsible for the maintenance and restoration of the lines fleet of coaches, wagons and other wheeled vehicles.

Locomotives

The line has a variety of steam and diesel locomotives, which it uses for both passenger, driver experience and engineering trains. Many of these locomotives worked, or are typical of engines that used to operate in our area.

Coaches

Our fleet of Coaches is a mix of standard British Rail designs, from early Mark 1 to latter Mark 2F they all pose a unique challenge in their maintenance and restoration. Visit the Coaches page for more information.

Diesel Multiple Units

These are coaches with diesel engines underneath driving the wheels, and can be driven from either end, so ideal for destinations which do not have run-round loops (such as Coopersale). Visit the DMU page for more information.

Diesel Electric Multiple Units

These are similar to DMUs, but their diesel engine drives a generator, which then creates electricity which powers motors attached to the wheels. Our unit is a Hastings or 205 which were nicknamed "Thumpers" due to the sound they made. Find out more here.

Wagons and Engineers Vehicles

As our line grows so does our need for specialist engineering vehicles and of course no branch line would be complete without its goods train!

Other wheeled vehicles

A strange title? Well we have a few other items around the railway which don't quite fit in to the other categories and they can be found here.
