Easter Egg Hunt & Bunny Hop Disco

Easter On The E O R

The Railway's own Bertie Bunny is hosting what could be Essex's longest Easter Egg Hunt  this year. The hunt which  consists of ten large eggs hidden across a course that is the length of 131,579 eggs laid end to end will take in features and sights along the length of the Epping Ongar Railway from Ongar through to Coopersale.

Throughout the Easter weekend, Bertie will be bouncing around the Railway helping children find where he's hidden all the eggs in what must be the longest Easter Egg hunt in Essex. Every child who finds all of the rabbit's eggs will receive an Easter egg for themselves.

Children will have some clues as to help them find the eggs which have been hidden around the Railway. Fares have been kept at 2014 prices and discounts are available for early booking. Children who correctly find the location of all the eggs will win an Easter egg from Bertie's own stockpile.

Bertie will also be at his own disco 'The Bunny Hop' – a disco for children where they can dance with Bertie, take the time to colour in their egg hunt sheets or get their face painted, whilst their parents and grandparents have a cup of tea. 'The Bunny Hop'  runs for 25 minutes at a time starting at 11:35, 12:35, 13:35, 14:35 with ambient music from 15:35.

Spring Diesel Gala*

Spring Diesel Gala

Visiting Loco - 08483
First Great Western have confirmed that Class 08 08483, fresh from overhaul, is the planned loco to visit from their London Old Oak Common depot.

This will be the first time a Class 08 has visited the Epping Ongar Railway and we are very excited to be working with FGW in making this a first for the Epping Ongar Railway.

Home Fleet

03170
31438
37029

We will operate an intensive 3 train service; Class 08483 hauling the Thumper and a 5 coach and 3 coach loco hauled sets. The timetable is available for download from here.

The First Great Western Class 08 being air braked only will be attached to our NSE Thumper which will be used as hauled stock. It will be doing trips throughout both days of the Gala to accommodate those coming from other Galas.

The Railways 2 Class 03's 03119 and 03170 will be paired up and will operate top and tailed throughout on a 3 coach train.

On Saturday evening the main 5 coach bar set will continue running until 9pm hauled by the 47635 and 37029. 47635 providing ETH if required.

Subject to volunteers it is hoped to have bars on at least 2 of the trains and with cask ale available on the main 5 coach rake which will also form the Saturday night Beerex and 'Epping Fryer'.

Draught Ale will be from Redemption Brewery, London - we've ordered Trinity (3%) and Hopspur (4.5%). We'll have a range of bottled beer in addition to draught cider.

Non stop trains will once again feature between Ongar and Epping Forest running non stop through North Weald.

The planned extension of the line is still on track for reopening on the weekend of the Diesel Gala. This will be the first time the full length of the line will be available and will give us 6 miles of running, including also for the first time the steepest part of the line.

The Epping Fryer
Another first for our Diesel Gala will the addition of an a Fish and Chip train on the Saturday evening of the Gala.

For the combined price of £23, including your Gala ticket, you will be offered a choice of Fish and Chips or Sausage and Chips served at your seat. The price also includes a dessert of ice cream from one of our local suppliers and a choice of tea or coffee. A bar service, from our newly christened bar the Flag and Whistle, will also be available for the purchase of alcoholic or soft drinks

These tickets can be purchased online as a 'Combined Gala and Epping Fryer Ticket' for just £23. We only have a limited number of places so we strongly advise you book early to guarantee your seat.

Unfortunately we cannot take bookings on the day as the Fish and Chip shop need to know numbers by Friday evening.

The train will be hauled top and tail by 47635 and 37029 and your meal will be served to you at Ongar at 7pm and enjoyed as you travel through the Essex countryside to Epping Forest and back.

Cab Rides
Once again we will be offering cab rides for a 'Fiver'. On all services we will offering our popular cab rides during the Diesel Gala. For a 'Fiver' you will be able to get a one way journey 'up front' between Ongar and North Weald or North Weald and Epping Forest. They have proved so popular we have designed an Edmondson style ticket to take away with you as part of your cab ride experience.

On the day just go to the cab and ask one of our drivers about a cab ride.

Tickets
Gala Prices - once again we have tried to keep our prices as near to our normal fares. Fares booked online in advance are the same as our normal fare with no gala 'uplift'. To bring in a mainline loco by road and have 4 mainline locos running plus the Thumper and operating a 3 train service we think this is great value for money.

And don't forget your Gala ticket also includes a heritage bus from Epping LU Station and Shenfield BR Mainline to bring you to our Gala.

Adult £13 (£15 on the day)
Child £7 (£ 8 on the day)
Family £34 (£39 on the day)

The Network SouthEast Society will be attending with their stand. If any other groups would like to attend send an email to Marco Carrara (marcoc@eorailway.co.uk)
