Come and join the Easter Bunny and his friends on the Epping Ongar Railway at Easter. Family tickets bought online are just £32 if bought in advance for 2 adults and 3 children.
We have the following to keep the kids entertained:
- One of the largest Easter egg hunts in Essex – find 10 eggs hidden by the Easter Bunny at various locations around the Railway. North Weald and Ongar stations are 3 miles apart making this perhaps the biggest Easter Egg hunt in Essex. Each child that successfully finds all the eggs around the Railway can collect a prize Easter Egg! Remember to keep an eye out of the window as you travel between North Weald and Ongar in case the bunny has hidden a egg somewhere along the line!
- Owl display – come and meet these fascinating nocturnal birds. Children and adults alike are always amazed at the serenity and beauty of these wonderful birds. The owl display is every day at North Weald station – and there will be opportunities for some lucky children to get up close and hold these birds.
- A face -painter for those who really want to look the part*
- A bouncy castle at North Weald station – make sure that the kids sleep on the way home by wearing them out on the bouncy castle*
- The Easter Bunny will be out and about meeting children around the Railway all weekend, with plenty of time for pictures with you and your family
- Hot Cross buns are on sale throughout the Railway – including the bar on most of our trains running between North Weald and Ongar! Mums and Dads can buy a cup or tea or one of our bottled beers to go with it. We also have a range of special Easter items for sale in the shop at Ongar
- And of course unlimited travel on the heritage buses, steam and diesel trains all day.

Saturday 26 - Sunday 27 April – Diesel Gala
This year’s annual Spring Diesel Gala takes place over the weekend 26th and 27th April. We will be running an intensive train service, with real ale bar on our vacuum braked train and our popular Saturday evening trains.
We have been advised by the owning group of 20227 that this loco is required to return to the mainline earlier than planned and will therefore now be unavailable to attend our Spring Diesel Gala.
The good news is that in the space of 24 hours, with the help of the Midland Class 20 Association (MCTA) we have managed to confirm that 20048 will be attending from The Midland Railway Centre as replacement.
Home Fleet Locomotives
Cab rides will be available at this event in all four main line locomotives. Priced at £10, you can choose either a single journey between North Weald and Ongar or a return trip to Coopersale.
Cab passes will be on sale from the Ticket Offices at North Weald or Ongar.
An intensive timetable will operate throughout the weekend. Each day will have two express runs, plus double heading and top and tailing. Click here to view.
